Seize the Day
, a rare, beloved, highly collectible Hermès design by French artist, Joachim Metz. The design depicts the sun surrounded by stars in the sky beaming down on a sundial listing the hours of the day. This design was first issued by Hermès as part of its 1994 Spring - Summer "Year Of The Sun" themed collection. The design was reissued in 1997 retitled "Gloria Soli," due to a copyright dispute regarding its original title. Due to its popularity and limited availability prior to its being renamed, this design and title is increasingly hard to find due to its continued popularity and collectability. It is rated “Rare and Very Beloved” by the latest edition of the internationally preeminent, illustrated Hermès scarf rating directory, Carre̒s d'art IV (Fontan, Geneviève, Paris: Afron,) 2020, p 61. The design is signed by the artist (see, photo 8).
The gorgeous colorway is comprised of a white, gold and cardinal red border surrounding a white and gold background with design details rendered in lapis blue, orange peel, lavender, red, turquoise, yellow gold, metallic gold, cinnabar plus yellow, forest green, celadon and nickel grey accents. The hem/edging is in contrasting cinnabar
This 1994 vintage carre̒ is in 10 out of 10, pristine, unused condition (see our condition scale for reference). There are no stains, spots, discolorations, holes, thread snags or thread runs. The silk is still boutique fresh with original folds and a crisp, smooth hand. The hem/edging is intact, round and plump. The fabric/care/origin label is attached. This scarf measures 35" x 34.5" (88.9cm x 87.6cm). This perfect scarf was a boutique sale item as indicated by a discreet and faint stamped "S" located on the reverse side of the scarf just below the the fabric label (see, photo 10). This stamp, barely visible on the reverse side, cannot be seen on the front side.
This design is a true example of classic Hermès sophistication at its best, especially in the rare and beautiful colorway this specimen presents. This is the perfect carre̒ in perfect condition to wear, show or collect. It comes in its original Hermès gift box plus its 1994 collection themed bolduc/ribbon box tie.
