"After 500 years of the beginning of evangelization in Mexico, many towns in Veracruz preserve religious traditions such as the dance of "Los Santiagos", which is a representation of the struggle between Moors and Christians.
The dancer explained that the dance is a representation of the slaughter of Pilate, some say that he is the devil, and Christians must defend God.
This tradition of the dance of "Los Santiagos" is inherited from generation to generation.
The dancer commented that the tradition of "Los Santiagos" is related to the war between Christians against Moors.
This dance stages a battle between good and evil.
A dancer explained that in the time of the first evangelizers there were not many ways to communicate;
dance was the ideal form.
With colorful costumes, the dancers or "Santiagos" perform this act prior to the presentation of the child Jesus through the different neighborhoods of the municipality of Coscomatepec."
