    I just purchased this vintage Mother-of-Pearl / Abalone Fish Bottle Opener from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The piece is characteristic of the articulated / jointed designs produced in Mexico (primarily in the Taxco region) during the 1960's. The piece is well executed with rich color and subtle iridescence to the abalone shell layering. The opener measures 8" long and 2 ¾" wide at the tail, roughly 2" at the neck. The piece is in very good condition, the only issue I could find was maybe a sliver of shell missing from one plate tip (last picture). This figural bottle opener would make a fun addition to your collection of vintage Mexican folk art or Bar back memorabilia.
