Condition: An Antique "as found" rustic axe and handle. Display as is or dive in for a rewarding restoration project. The Estate seller said the collector had it for at least 60 years. He collected early farming and homesteading tools. You can see the handle repairs were done to keep the axe working and done as needed. Neat example of utilitarian methods when time was precious and money was scarce. The axe head was clearly used for many purposes. Keep it as is and give a polish or do a complete restore and new handle.

Description

Here is a cool antique axe at least 60-75 years old, possibly much older. It shows many years of hard use and basic repairs. It would make a rustic display as is or with a little oil to bring out the patina or restored to some degree. The handle is 27.5" from the bottom of the axe head to the end of the handle. It has an interesting shape and definitely looks hand hewn. I believe the handle can be re-mounted with a little loss of length. It is definitely hickory and in good shape. This axe could be brought back to life and could look great with the right persons restoration skills. The whole axe weighs about 3 pounds 5 ounces now. That is a nice size to make more of a camp axe or boys axe. It could also be kept as is and oiled or lightly sanded and finished for a beautiful vintage look. The screws in the axe head speak to the need to keep working and fix on the fly. the head does wiggle a bit and would need a re-mounted handle to be able to use.
