Vintage Helko Werk Carl Helsper 1.5 lb Crown Embossed Custom Hatchet Axe
This auction is for a custom, vintage, Helko Werk Carl Helsper hatchet.
This custom hatchet head is an original Carl Helsper, 1 1/2 lb model, with a deep, ‘CH’ crown embossing. The hatchet head retains its original factory, sea foam green paint, from mid head to poll. From mid head to blade, we hand polished to a mirror shine, as photos depict.
The hatchet head was completely cleaned of rust, the inner eye coated with linseed oil and blade sharpened.
The haft chosen is a solid American, 19 inch, straight grain hickory piece. The haft was hand sanded smooth and custom fit to the hatchet head. The kerf was coated with boiled linseed oil and a birch wedge was driven deep inside, coated with Titebond Ultimate. The top eye was cut proud 3/8”, shaped and hand sanded smooth.
The hickory was treated with genuine Odie’s Oil and after curing, given a coating of genuine Axe Wax. The hatchet head was also coated with Axe Wax for further protection from the elements.
