Vintage Mexican Pottery Tile Sun Face Jorge Wilmot
Artes Folklorico presents a vintage Mexican pottery sun face tile by the renowned, Jorge Wilmot.
Although born in Mexico, Wilmot trained in Europe and was a visionary who combined both European and Asian techniques of production.
He set up a studio in the late 1950s in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico.
Wilmot became famous worldwide for his stoneware pottery.
This tile is a perfect example.
The tile features a wonderful sun with a whimsical and expressive face. The piece is signed on the back with Wilmot’s characteristic, ‘W.’
The tile is in excellent vintage condition (see photographs).
The piece measures 2-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches by ¼-inches.
